I think the future of open-source software will increasingly belong to people who know how to play Linus’s game, people who leave behind the cathedral and embrace the bazaar.

The Social Context of Open-Source Software

I think the part, “leaving behind the cathedral and embrace the bazaar” is a perfect analogy on many other things happening right now not just in open source and even outside of tech.  I need to make up some shirts, “leave behind the cathedral, embrace the bazaar”

On any given night in the U.S., there are approximately 60,500 youth confined in juvenile correctional facilities or other residential programs. Photographer Richard Ross has spent the past five years criss-crossing the country photographing the architecture, cells, classrooms and inhabitants of these detention sites.
The resulting photo-survey, Juvenile-In-Justice, documents 350 facilities in over 30 states. It’s more than a peek into unseen worlds — it is a call to action and care.
I grew up in a world where you solve problems, you don’t destroy a population,” says Ross. “To me it is an affront when I see the way some of these kids are dealt with.

Check out the full gallery over at Raw File.

Striking, striking, striking pictures.

Nope, I have no guilt. I’m not trying to scam anyone, or upload viruses to their computer or anything like that. I simply show products to the Pinterest community. I realize that I’m spamming the crap out of the site, but its nothing personal, just business.

Steve, 24 year old Pinterest Spammer making over $1k per day, A Pinterest Spammer Tells All

These things are never scalable but I love seeing how creative people find these loopholes to make decent money.  The whole interview is worth reading.

It is nice to know that after all of this time PhoneTag still kicks the shit out of Google Voice.  I still have people contacting me all the time that left PhoneTag for Google Voice to save money and come back because they can just not stand the crappy transcriptions.
Score one for the little guys:)

A final thought: On average, you have 78 years total to live. The first 18-20 are spent learning, which leaves 58. Spending 2 years doing something you don’t enjoy is a full 3.4% of your life. What are you getting back for that investment? Money? What are you going to do with that money that will be worth the non-refundable 3.4% of your life? An extra room in your house?
