Just landed in London on my way to Germany.  I decided to fly British Airways to Germany because I wanted to see the new Terminal 5 that they opened at Heathrow last year.
My first impression is that they tried to “revolutionize” everything about an airline terminal.The result is a large bill ($8 billion USD), a long time (19 years from planning to opening) and a lot of dysfunction.Security uses much more advanced and automated machines then in the US, which has created less throughput and from what I could see a lot more staff needed to assist the passengers.  I never thought I would say this but I will actually be happy to see the TSA back in the US.It is amazing that in an industry like the airlines that lose so much money how they are able to advertise like crazy and build these incredible terminals.  It would be interesting to see if airlines focused on just moving passengers from point to point and not on their images if they would actually make money…
