How to Sell a Mac Book Pro for $6,700 on eBay
I have a Mac Book Pro, 17”, that I bought last year and no longer have a use for it. So I figured I would just sell it on eBay. So far I have been EXTREMELY successful selling it on eBay, netting a total of $6,700 in 4 consecutive sales.
So how with one laptop was I able to sell it 4 times (now going on 5)? Because for things like laptops eBay is just a giant black hole full of scumbags and shit. So far each sales has been to some type of scammer or criminal.
At this point I am just going to keep re-listing the laptop for sport, just to see how many times I can have this happen, at some point I must be able to set a all time fraud record.
All funny aside, eBay is a $30+ billion company which has been in business for over 15 years and still can not combat simple fraud to protect their users. The stuff that is happening with my laptop could be fixed by a thinktank done at a pre-school.
The weird thing is that it does not seem like eBay is trying to fix this issue that has existed since its inception. Of the 28 company acquisitions they have done, zero have been on fraud prevention. They obviously have been unable to fix this problem internally so I think it is time to look outside and buy some talent/systems, like TrustMe* to fix this shit once and for all.
Increasing the health of their ecosystem could only make them more successful and help to fend off some future competition. It is time for eBay to focus on what actually makes them money.
*I am a investor in Trustme but that really was not my motivation for this post. I do not care what eBay does to fix the problem but as a seller on their site they need to do something and they need to do it now.
Update- I was informed and had missed that eBay bought Fraud Sciences in 2008. However when I checked deeper into that purchase it appears that they put that company into the Paypal division and have not used the tech on the ebay auction side. If they are using it on the eBay side then the Fraud Science technology sucks…
