Skype is the killer, not Google Voice

I continue to see a ton of press and activity around Google Voice.  If you want my full thoughts on Google Voice, click here.

But it seems that everyone is forgetting about Skype, except for the market.  Over the past year Skype has continued to become more valuable for my day to day communication, in fact it is probably one of the most important business tools that I have.

Ebay, the owner of Skype, was trying to dump it for a 1/4 of the purchase price a little over a year ago.  It seems now that they will be spinning out Skype and allowing it to be a separate company unencumbered from the corporate cement that Ebay has become.

In the next 3-5 years I think it will become very clear that Skype will be the most successful Telecom 2.0 company, far exceeding Google Voice…
