The first time I saw a Personal Rapid Transit system was at Raytheon in Boston around 1999 (cool video of that here).  The system is a subway that acts like a taxi, each pod can route itself individually to your destination. If I was the mayor of a large city I would be looking into deploying personal rapid transit everywhere.  It almost does not matter the cost.  With a system like this you could probably stop almost 100% of the automotive traffic in a city, significantly reducing pollution and increasing overall happiness It is big projects like this that we need to make to our infrastructure to truly improve the underlying foundation of our economy. more via azspot: United Arab Emirates building network of driverless electric taxis
