How do you know if you are wasting time?

I reposted a quote yesterday about how entrepreneurs work too hard on things that might not matter from one of the founders of Flickr. Bryce, a friend and fellow entrepenuer (founder of www.taskus.com), wrote the below as a comment to that post:

As a young entrepreneur I have been really surprised by how many of my mentors have made this same point. The wisest people I know can point to two or three major decisions that made the difference. A lot of the work (read freaking out) turned out to be fluff. The challenge is knowing the difference. Which, can be very difficult (especially for the newbie entrepreneur).

He really makes a great point, when I was starting it was very hard to understand the difference between busy work and productive work. Experience helps in making this determination but what I find has helped even more is listening and trusting my gut. Originally posted as a comment by brycemaddock on James Siminoff using Disqus.
