Being Available

I had a really interesting meeting in the Bay Area on Friday with the founder of a company that is just taking off right now.

One of the things that we discussed was how available should a founder/CEO be to the world.  He was told by one of those big PR firms (personally I hate big PR firms) that he had to make himself a little more hard to find.  I understand what they are trying to do, create that sort of night club effect.  Not sure if it works or not but I do not like to run any business that way.

At SimulScribe I have my cell phone and email address all over the website.  Every team member on the site has their email address listed as well.  I believe that if a customer or potential partner wants to talk to us then let them and make it easy.  So far a lot of positive has come out of this for us, including the ability to learn about and fix problems before they fester into larger ones.

When I told the founder how we have done it he responded with, “That is what I want to do also.”  My response was, “Fuck them, be available”
