A recieved a comment on my post about Craigslist Fraud from KitchenMike. He asked about what types of fraud I have seen in dealing with Craigslist. There is of course the low level normal scams and bullshit as you have with anything. What has peaked my interest in this issue recently is that there seems to be some very sophisticated groups creating scams that very few people would be able to figure out. They are able to do this because Craigslist does zero to stop it other then a disclaimer. The picture with this post is of a Wolf range which I inquired about to buy for my new house, which was posted on the local Craigslist for my area. i went back and forth with the person negotiating for the oven, when I told her I would take it, she sent a long email about how her husband works for Lufthansa and that they are from here but in Germany right now and that he gets free shipping… now normally you would say, ok scam, however she sent the link for Lufthansa’s shipping and escrow service, www.alg-logistics.com (they have sinced taken the site down and probably moved it to somewhere else). I went to the site, and it was very real, however it was registered to some random person in San Diego. I was able to pick up on the above scam but I am sure that a person who has had less fraud experience that I have would have probably not picked up on this. At this point I would not sell anything on Craigslist and am extremely cautious about buying things on it. While I find it still beneficial the issues of exposing yourself to real criminals is not something that I want to do to save a few $100.
