I did some remodeling in my kitchen this weekend. I really like building stuff, so from here on out, no more golf, just going to be building stuff around the house.
As I took old appliances out of the house it was amazing that everything that I took out was made in the USA. I actually almost felt bad throwing it away.
What pisses me off about the import issues is that everyone keeps talking about tariffs. I think that they are missing the bigger point, while China has cheap labor, the biggest savings on most products over manufacturing in the US is they have zero environmental costs. Environmental costs for compliance in the US are massive. They also allow us to manufacturer with relative cleanliness.
Why not allow for free trade from all countries if the product is manufactured (with certification) with the same environmental standards as say California. Do that and I bet that you will see things made in the USA again, not because of nostalgia, but given a semi-even playing field (high shipping costs would probably balance out US labor costs) Americans would be able to compete.
