The solution to pollution

I was watching a show on HD Theater tonight called Future Car.  One of the concepts companies that they were showing was a new hydrogen powered go-cart racing league called Formula Zero.  The idea behind Formula Zero is that racing has a inherent competition to push innovation to win and in this case that push furthers technology that can help to produce zero emission green vehicles.

That got me thinking, the thing that made racing so exciting in the coming age of the car was the giant leaps of innovation a team would make to then for a period of time dominate the league.  Today in Nascar and Formula One everyone basically has the same car, innovation is less dramatic.

Imagine what would happen if Formula One and Nascar announced that they were going to require all race cars to only use hydrogen, electric, or some other green technology.  Let the teams figure out which one is best and how to make them better.  It would decrease the speeds and for a geek like me I might actually start watching it…
