Voicemail for Haiti

Last week I received a email from someone at the Mobile Giving Foundation, one of the groups involved in the massive fund raising going on using mainly SMS for Haiti.  They had a problem, while most of the donations came in through the website and SMS the people calling in overwhelmed their volunteers and ended up in a ton of voicemail.

We were able to get them a PhoneTag account set up (free of course) and support them in getting the voicemails transcribed.  Once transcribed they were able to quickly weed through the ones that needed attention and in the end increase the amount of money raised for Haiti.

What has happened in Haiti is a true atrocity.  It really felt great that technology that I was involved in creating could help out during a time of need and hopefully change for the better lives of a few people.

If you have not donated yet, please do at www.mobilegiving.org.
