Converting Voicemail to Text then Back to Voice

I would not exactly say that this is how we envisioned the product being used but in the world of open source it is always nice to see what mashups people build.

huge:

I am so excited for Jott’s newest feature — reading text (RSS feeds) to you outloud over the phone!

Given that I am a zealous PhoneTag user and have all my voicemail transcribed to text, this seems like a strange thing for me to be interested in.  However it is precisely because of PhoneTag that I need a service like this!

You see, I ride my bike a lot and I usually like to listen to music (technically podcasts sped up 160%) while I ride.  Things got really intereting when I got an iPhone: because the earbuds double as a hand-free phone headset, I started talking on the phone while I ride.  Unforunately (fortunately?) it’s still very difficult to text while you ride, so I tend not to do that very often.

So imagine this common situation: I’m riding my bike and totally rocking out to something when a call comes in.  For whatever reason I decide not to answer it and the person leaves a voicemail.  I’m curious what it says, but I obviously hate listening to voicemail.  So I get a text message alert saying I have voicemail, the transcription arrives in my email inbox, I automatically publish the email as an RSS feed, and then I have Jott read it to me!  Awesome!
