Posterous, a Tumblr competitor?
I was catching up this morning on the weekend TechCrunch posts and saw this one, Posterous Beats Tumblr In Simplicity. As many of you know who read this blog (I am sure some don’t) the platform that this blog is running on is called Tumblr. It is a really well thought out and easy platform to blog from and I have enjoyed its simplicity as well as the ability to customize things when I want to got the more complicated route.
The new “competitor” Posterous is simply a email to screen solution. You send it an email and it posts it to a site. Nothing earth shattering there and as a Tumblr user I do not even think it is fare to compare the 2.
However there are 2 things that I like about them:
1. I have talked about this model before, where there is no sign up. You just email your info to post@posterous.com and it sets up your account immediately, makes your first post and emails you back about the info. I love this model, the other place that I have seen it with Doplr and it is pure genius.
2. Comments are built in. I know that the founders of Tumblr HATE comments but I think that many people like myself feel that they are very value added. Tumblr (in my opinion) should really do a deal with Disqus where it is a toggle switch to turn comments on and not the current cut and paste HTML which is a little too complex for the light user.
I think that Tumblr has built a lot more then Michael Arrington from TechCrunch is giving it credit for. My money (if I could invest in it) would still be on Tumblr.
