There is an interesting article on the front page of the Wall Street Journal about Google’s trouble in monetizing the ad space on You Tube.  What I found funny about the article is how there is a comparison being made between the search ad business and placing ads on You Tube.
Search ads are special because they enhance the user experience.  If you are searching for “deck lumber los angeles” like I was this morning and the first 3 things you see are Los Angeles based lumber supply companies that paid to be there then that adds to my user experience, even enhances it.
On the flip side if I go to watch a entertaining clip on YouTube the ad is just a distraction between me and my goal.
Ads on YouTube for Google is not diversification of the pay per click business it is a different model.
