Facebook announced “Facebook Presence” at the F8 conference in San Francisco. Unlike the other location systems out there, Facebook is using a RFID tag and a physical station to hold it next to vs. a app on the phone like Gowalla or Foursquare.  So far it is not clear if this is something just for the conference or a full scale roll out. I think that the real genius in this would not be the presence piece but Facebook tying this to a payment system.  With Facebooks size and market power if they can get a online/offline payment system going then monetization could go to a entirely new level. via whitneymcn via mikehudack via himmelsblog and finally via trendd
