F*CK you F*CKING BP*

I try to keep this blog mostly around entrepreneurial stuff and things that are personal but sort of tie into life as a entrepreneur.

But on this post I am going to digress.  I can no longer watch the TV or read the articles about the Gulf.  It has come to a point where it is just too upsetting.  Seeing that smug prick CEO of BP testifying yesterday in front of congress put me over the edge.

The government response also infuriates me.  There is so much to do and it just does not seem like they are doing anything to really stop/mitigate this issue.  For example, they should rent out a convention space in Lousiana until this spill is fixed and invite everyone in the oil business and anyone that has a idea on how to fix the leak or technology to clean it up to show their stuff.  This is a time to let the “crazies” come out.

A company a friend of mine’s father created during the first gulf war was a solution to cleaning up oil using dry ice.  Originally he was targeting the product at putting out oil well fires.  He then saw that it works great for cleaning up oil spills.  Now I am not saying this is the answer but I would sure love to see his brain and ideas on helping to clean up this spill.  Check out the video of the technology below.

The damage from this spill is going to last a really long time and is only going to be made worse by the lack of a coordinated and intelligent response.  BP is now saying that the leak will be stopped in August, in case you do not know August probably means October, by that time there will probably be enough oil in the gulf to run your car from its waters.

What I also can not get out of my head is the lack of redundancy that it seems the entire oil industry is guilty of not building into their off shore systems.  Coming from telecom we engineer our networks and systems with multiple geographically redundant nodes in order to guarantee uptime in the event of failure.  Voxeo, one of the larger companies in the IVR space (the automated systems that you get when calling large companies) does a tripple geo-redundancy in their network with full capacity in each area to insure 100% uptime.  Literally 2 nodes can go down and they are fine.  Which is funny because the worst thing that can happen in telecom during downtime is lost calls…

But the time for looking back at the oil idiots is too late, it is now time to move forward.  Obama should be putting together summits of professors, entrepreneurs, crazies, etc., to come up with solutions to mitigate this issue as much as you can at this point.  It would be amazing to see what could happen by trying to leverage the worlds minds around solving this problem.

*Also f*ck you regulators for not understanding how this shit even works and allowing it to happen.
