Dan Ariely’s New Book
I am now half way through Dan Ariely’s new book, The Upside of Irrationality. His last book, Predictable Irrational is definitely one of my favorite business books, or for that matter one of my favorite books period.
Unlike most sequels Dan’s second book is better then the first one and I am only half way through it. Like his first book he proves out theories with real world experiments.
What I like so much about these books is that many of the theories are things which I have done but without knowing why, the sort of gut decisions. By taking apart these subjects and backing them up with experiments it helps to fully understand them making the knowledge a lot more powerful.
For example one of the themes which I have been a huge believer in is that pay does not have very much to do with productivity. I have always felt that as long as someone is making a decent salary that their real driver is more around meaning than money. Read the book and you will see how Dan proves that through multiple examples and experiments.
If you are a CEO, entrepreneur, or for that matter anything else you should read the book cover to cover.
