Thinking about the future of Windows Mobile

Bijan is right, Microsoft should buy RIM.

bijan:

Earlier this morning the number one story on Techmeme was about Microsoft Windows Mobile. Lots of rumors and speculation about Windows Mobile 7.

In 2010.

I’m not kidding.

Here’s the thing. It will surprise many of you but I’m actually a big fan of Microsoft. They make a bunch of great products (Xbox360, keyboard, mouse) and we rely on Microsoft Exchange as our digital furnace at work.

But Windows Mobile just isn’t very good. That was certainly true when it first shipped and it doesn’t compete now. And hoping for something magical to happen in 2010….well, I just don’t see it.

So I’m thinking Microsoft should buy either Palm or RIM.

My bet is they buy RIM. That’s the right move. The MSFT Exchange/Blackberry combo is bulletproof. And Microsoft could help put a proper browser on the Blackberry.

Lets see if that happens.
